What data we collect and why
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your name, email address and a hashed (encrypted) password. We use this to identify you, give you access to courses you have purchased, and communicate with you about your account. The legal basis for this processing is the performance of a contract.
Purchase information
When you make a purchase, we record which course or product you bought, the amount paid and the date of purchase. We use this to give you access to what you have bought and to maintain our financial records. The legal basis is the performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in maintaining accurate business records.
We do not store your payment card details. All card processing is handled by Stripe Inc., our payment processor. Please see Stripe's privacy policy for details of how they handle your payment data.
Gift purchases
If you purchase a course as a gift, we collect your name, your email address, and the name of your intended recipient. This is used to generate and deliver the gift code to you. The legal basis is the performance of a contract.
Email marketing
If you sign up for our mailing list or download a free resource, we add your email address to our email marketing list managed by Kit (ConvertKit Inc.). We use this to send you photography tips, course updates and promotional emails. The legal basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use our website. Google Analytics collects anonymised data about your visit including pages viewed, time spent and where you came from. Microsoft Clarity records session behaviour including mouse movements, clicks and scrolling to help us improve the site. Both services use cookies. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer.
If you decline analytics cookies, no data is sent to Google or Microsoft.
Technical data
Our web server automatically logs your IP address, browser type and pages visited. This data is used to maintain security and diagnose technical problems. It is not used for marketing and is not shared with third parties. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in maintaining a secure service.
How long we keep your data
- Account data — kept for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days. Purchase records are retained for 7 years for legal and accounting purposes.
- Email marketing — kept until you unsubscribe or request removal.
- Password reset tokens — expire after 1 hour and are permanently deleted after use.
